What is OIKOS?
Oikos is a greek word used in the New Testament to describe the 8-15 people in our individual lives whom we have the greatest opportunity to impact for Jesus . The best translation of Oikos might be "household" but the term also included friends, co-workers, neighbors and the like. At Three Rivers we believe that the way most people encounter God is through a key relationship in their lives.
If you think about your journey with God, there has probably been one or two people who were extraordinarily influential in your faith. Maybe they prayed with you. Maybe they showed kindness or generosity. Maybe they invited you to church or shared their faith story with you. At Three Rivers, we believe that our best opportunities for ministry don't happen in our church building, but in fact happen in the context of our daily lives. Every day God gives us opportunities to show the love of Christ. In this way we build the kingdom of God together!
